Description:
A 1827 Pattern Naval Officer's Presentation Sword 36 inches overall, 30 inch slightly curved single edged blade etched to either side with scrolling foliage and Royal coat of arms, gilt brass hilt incorporating crowned fouled anchor, folding guard, lion's head pommel and wire bound fish skin grip, sword knot, in gilt brass mounted black leather scabbard. Presentation inscription ‘Presented to Mr CF.Beaton the by the officers of the gun room mess of HMS Cambridge as a token of respect 18th of February 1868. HMS Cambridge, 116 gun three deck first rate originally built at Pembroke Dock’s and named Victoria, rebuilt with a single screw steam engine in 1858 and renamed Windsor Castle rebuilt in 1866 with the twin screw engine, Armstrong rifled guns and renamed HMS Cambridge became Gunnery School at Portsmouth in 1869.
Blade worn, no gilding remains, scabbard slightly scuffed.
