A 1899 pattern Cavalry Troopers sword 40” overall 33 ½” slightly curved blade with wide fuller stamped ‘99’ and EFD at the hilt with various inspectors’ marks Steel bowl guard with reinforced edge, leather grip worn smooth fixed with three rivets, bowl guard stamped with ‘9L’ mark.. In its scabbard with ox eye loops and experimental thick leather cover with EFD mark, 99. And 9L b 42

 These swords are often found in well used condition, but this one is in good condition with a very good blade.

Dated 1899

The 9th Queen's Royal Lancers took part in the Second Boer War, and was present at the Battle of Belmont and the Battle of Modder River in November 1899, as well as the Battle of Magersfontein in December 1899, Relief of Kimberley in February 1900 and the subsequent Battle of Paardeberg which resulted in Piet Cronjé’s surrender.
