Grenadier company officer’s sword by Dawes 38 ½ overall. 33” slightly curved blade with broad fuller, frost etched with trophy of arms, royal coat of arms, figure of Proserpina, Dawes Birmingham the obverse with floral bands, crowned GR, standing Britannia and ‘Warranted’. The spine etched “Thomas Beck” in gilt. Brass gilt hilt with sidebar and grenade, Lion’s head pommel, black leather grip with twisted gilt wire. In its original gilt brass scabbard with two suspension rings.

Beck served as an officer in Lincoln’s Volunteer Corps. He was a minor landowner of Cherry Willingham, about four miles east of Lincoln.

A very rare sword in good condition, with areas of original polish and blue and gilt highlights.

Scabbard unpolished and attractively patinated.
