A very rare pattern 1816 Rifleman’s sidearm. 26” overall 22” blade saw backed and double edged at the tip. Inspector’s mark. Brass ribbed grip with lions head pommel and stirrup knuckle bow. In its original leather scabbard. Sword in good condition, very rare scabbard split and missing chape and with an old repair. Issued after the change over from the Baker Sword Bayonet to the Socket Bayonet [see De Witt Bailey – British Military Flintlock Rifles 1740 – 1840].
