A fine 1822 pattern Infantry Officers Pipe Back Sword. 37 ½” overall with 32” slender pipe backed blade etched with a crowned ‘WR’ to both sides, with gothic three bar hilt, with crowned ‘WR IV’, stepped pommel with acanthus on back strap. Fish skin grip with triple twisted gilt wire. In its original black leather and gilt brass scabbard with single frog stud and two suspension rings.
Circa 1830.
In 1826 sling mounts were adopted so all scabbards were fixed with loose rings. A very early example in good condition.
