A Fine Pair of Rifled Irish Double Barrelled Percussion Pistols by Mara of Limerick. 9 1/”2 overall,5” 54 bore rifled browned twist sighted barrels signed on the ribs, 'Mara Ellen St. Limerick' foliate engraved breeches the engraving continuing along the length of the tangs, profusely engraved back-action locks signed within Celtic scrolling foliage, three position fern engraved hammers, highly figured walnut half-stocks with unusual saw-handled grip and fish-tailed butts, German Silver mounts, comprising foliate engraved butt-caps, trigger guards decorated with scrolling foliage on the bow and stylised pineapple finials, engraved ramrod pipe and barrel key escutcheons.

Daniel Mara of Ellen Street Limerick circa 1840-49. In 1849 his stock was sold at auction including double barrelled rifled pistols. He and his brother emigrated to the USA ,they are recorded as working as O’Mara brothers in Detroit in the 1860’s

A highly unusual pair of pistols, in good condition, with exceptionally good Limerick style engraving. Rifling worn and folding rear sights removed.
