A rare officer's 1796 Modified Pattern Heavy Dragoon flintlock pistol by H.W. Mortimer & Co.. 15" overall, 9⅛" bright carbine bore barrel, balustre-moulded at the breech, with Tower private view and proof marks, engraved “London” at the breech, and with plain tang. Rounded, double border line engraved swan neck cock, rounded, double border line engraved, bevelled lock marked “GR” crowned and “H.W. Mortimer & Co.” (on three lines) on the tail, teardrop finial to the feather spring. Figured walnut full stock carved around the rear of the lockplate and sideplate, and indented for 1½" at the muzzle end, and with regulation brass mounts, including double throat ramrod pipe, and steel ramrod with threaded end, probably original. Rounded butt, sideplate stamped with the initials “I.R”. Very good working order and condition (minor bruising to the stock, and an excellent, virtually undetectable, working life repair to the stock beneath the lock).
