A Fine Silver mounted Holster Pistol by Griffin. 15” overall, 9” round flat topped barrels with London proofs & ‘Griffin’ maker’s mark on underside and engraved ‘ London’. The border engraved rounded lockplates signed ‘Griffin’. Semi water proof pan and roller on frizzen spring . Walnut full stocks with raised carved shell around tang. Silver furniture consisting of long spur stepped buttcaps with grotesque mask, trigger guard with acanthus finials, floral sideplate, two ramrod pipes and escutcheon. Horn tipped ramrod with worm.

Silver mounts by 'JA' ’D’ for 1759.

 In good condition.and the lock is very interesting.It has been altered in about 1800 by cutting in a semi waterproof pan, retaining part of the rear fence and the original frizzen pivot, So the frizzen and frizzen spring with the roller are later,

Benjamin GRIFFIN. Apprenticed to Samuel Harrison, 1719; gave up apprentice and worked as Foreign gunmaker allowed to prove guns by Gunmakers Co., 1724-31. Told to give up work by Gunmakers CO., but traded as gunmaker (Successor to Samuel Garrison), Bond St., 1735-70. Registered silversmiths mark, Goldsmiths Hall, 1743. With son, Joseph, took out Sun Ins. (No. 159594)on goods at Cross & Griffin, New Bond Street., 1757. Died 1770.
