A very fine pair of flintlock travelling pistols by J&W.Richards of unusual design 91/2" overall, 4" blued octagonal turn off barrels cut at the muzzles for a key. Mounted on the right hand side with a 3 1/2 inch spring bayonets, breech is struck on the underside with London proof marks and barrel smith's Mark of a fleur de lys, square section box lock actions the right hand side with triggers for the bayonet, engraved trophies of arms and' London' within ovals, the left hand side with trophies and 'J & W Richards' within ovals, centrally mounted cocks and frizzens with safety catches locking frizzens, folding triggers, deeply chequered rounded butts with small shield shaped white metal escutcheons. Circa 1820 Excellent original condition, with much original finish elegant slender construction of a very high quality.
