An East India Company Cavalry Carbine by Manton 42" overall, with hook breech,  17 bore 26 ½" barrel with hook breech & blade foresight, barrel retained by slides & pins. The Winduss pattern lock engraved on the tail with VIEC, 1802 & 'Manton', with inspector's mark under the pan. Swan neck cock, fully stocked with handrail butt & apron round the barrel tang. Regulation furniture comprising of an India pattern butt plate, trigger guard with hole for sling swivel, S shaped side plate, ramrod tail pipe with a loop for swivel & two collared ramrod pipes, notched fore-end, Elliott style steel rammer. Manton service weapons are very uncommon, Manton was an EIC contractor from 1791 to 1806
