An India Pattern Brown Bess Musket

Stock Code: 8569

An India Pattern Brown Bess Musket 55” overall. 39” round barrel with Ordnance proofs, border engraved lock with Crown GR and Tower and inspector’s mark, swan necked cock. Regulation mounts with its original bayonet by Hadley.

This interesting musket was recently rediscovered in the loft of a house in Toulouse that had been the British HQ after the battle in 1814, the musket is thought to have remained there hidden ever since including during the German occupation in WWII. In basically un-issued condition although is overall patinated with a light covering of rust and the brass mounts have blackened with age. The ramrod is missing (the previous owner remembers his father using it to unblock a drain in the distant past!) All the stocker’s and inspector’s marks are crisp, the bayonet has matching stocker’s marks and is a perfect fit.

This gun could be cleaned to a near perfect finished if a new owner should wish to do so.
