A very fine near mint blunderbuss by H.W.Mortimer. 30" overall. 14 1/2" Iron bell mouthed barrel stamped 'H.W.Mortimer London' on top flat .Stepped chamfered lock plate engraved H.W.Mortimer with swan neck cock & safety catch, spoon shaped pan. Brass mounts comprising engraved butt cap, engraved trigger guard with shell finial and S shaped engraved side plate. Figured walnut full stock & horn tipped ramrod with worm.

Harvey Walklate Mortimer (1753-1819) was appointed Gunmaker to George III in 1783. He was at 89 Fleet Street between 1782 and 1799 and was Contractor to the East India Company from 1796 until 1806. He retired in 1811 and died in 1819. In partnership with Son and Brother as H.W. Mortimer, Son & T. Mortimer, 1800-1807; with Son as H.W. Mortimer & Son
