A Paget cavalry carbine, 31". 16" barrel with tower military proof marks, the double broad arrow mark and other ordnance marks, and stamped HHT.“V” backsight on the tang and long sloping brass foresight. Ring neck cock, flat, bevelled, stepped, bolted lock with semi-rainproof pan marked “GR” crowned, “Tower” on the tail and with crowned broad arrow, engraved on the bridle and tail of the lock. Walnut full stock stamped with HHT,GEF3 and 13., with regulation brass mounts, saddle bar and two rings and swivel ramrod. Tang of brass butt plate engraved C 63 .

Note: The Paget carbine takes its name from General Henry William Paget, Earl of Uxbridge and subsequently 1st Marquess of Anglesey (1768-1854), who is credited with its design. He was Master General of the Board of Ordnance from 1827 to 1828, and from 1846 to 1852.
